Description

The Floyd Rose SL317RP is a hardened steel locking nut for the SpeedLoader series. It clamps the strings at the headstock end, taking them out of the equation once the bridge is set — no string movement through the nut once the locks are torqued down. It is a direct replacement part for SpeedLoader-equipped guitars, not a cross-series fit.

A locking nut is one of the tightest fit calls on a floating tremolo build. This nut is cut for a neck width of 1.6875 in (42.86 mm) and a 17-inch fretboard radius. Both numbers have to match your guitar. A nut that is even a fraction too narrow pushes the outer strings toward the fretboard edge. A nut ground to the wrong radius leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the block face — and that means buzz that no amount of setup will fix. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts across a range (R2, R3, R4 and so on), so do not order by guitar model alone. Pull the existing nut, measure the neck at the nut slot, and check your fretboard radius before ordering.

Construction is hardened steel throughout. The material matters here because the clamping blocks bear the full string tension load every time the locks are tightened. Softer alloys develop hairline deformation at the block face over time, which is one of the first places to check when a locked nut starts losing consistent return-to-pitch.

If you are unsure whether this is the right nut for your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will tell you what we know.
