The Floyd Rose SL217RP is a hardened steel locking nut designed for Floyd Rose Speedloader series tremolo systems. Its job is to clamp the strings at the headstock end so that string movement through the nut cannot pull the guitar out of tune. Without a functioning locking nut, the floating bridge does half the work it should.
This nut fits a neck width of 1.650 in (41.90 mm) at the nut slot and is radiused at 17 inches. Both numbers have to match your guitar. Too flat a radius and the outer strings will sit proud of the nut surface and buzz; too narrow a width and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width code — R2, R3, R4 and so on — but the code alone does not tell you everything. Measure the width of your existing nut slot and confirm the radius before ordering. Do not guess from the model name.
The nut is machined from hardened steel. On Speedloader systems, string installation routes through the nut itself rather than using conventional ball-end strings, so the nut is not interchangeable with standard Floyd Rose locking nuts even if the slot dimensions look similar. Confirm you are running a Speedloader system before ordering.
If you are not certain this is the right part for your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will check it against what we have on the bench.
