The base plate is the structural core of the Floyd Rose Special tremolo. The saddles bolt to it, the sustain block hangs beneath it, the mounting posts pivot against it, and the string-lock hardware and tension plates are all dimensioned around it. When the system goes out of service, this plate is usually why: the knife edges — the two machined ridges that the plate rocks on — round over with use and lose the precision contact that makes the bridge return to pitch. No amount of spring adjustment or nut lubrication fixes worn knife edges. The plate comes out and this one goes in.
Fitment is not flexible on base plates. This is a Special Series plate and it only pairs with Special Series components. The saddle spacing, block mount, string-lock hardware and tension plates on the Special are cut for this plate's geometry — they do not cross over to Original, 1000 Series or any other Floyd Rose family. Count your strings and confirm your series before ordering. If the original plate has a part number stamped on it, that is the fastest check.
The plate is hardened steel with a satin gold finish, part number FRS2TBPSGP. Hardened steel at the knife edges is what makes the contact point durable; softer metal wears faster and the problem returns sooner.
