The base plate is the structural core of the Floyd Rose Special tremolo — the part that saddles, inertia block, claw posts and all string-lock hardware bolt to. When the knife edges on a plate have rounded over from years of use, the bridge can no longer return to a neutral pivot point and tuning stability goes with it. No amount of spring tension adjustment or setup time recovers a worn knife edge. The plate has to come out. This is the direct replacement for that plate, finished in satin black and made from hardened steel.

Fit is non-negotiable on a base plate. This plate is cut for the Floyd Rose Special series. Saddles, blocks, tension plates and string-lock screws from other Floyd Rose series — Original, 1000, Pro or any licensed variant — are dimensioned for their own plate and do not transfer over. Match the series exactly. If your existing hardware says Special on it, you are in the right place. If it does not, stop and check before ordering.

Material is hardened steel throughout. The knife edges on a hardened steel plate hold their geometry significantly longer than on softer alloys, but they do wear — and on a plate that has been in service for years, inspect the edge profile before assuming the bridge is simply out of adjustment. A visibly rounded or chipped knife edge is the failure, not the springs and not the nut.
