This is the base plate for a Floyd Rose Special series tremolo — the hardened steel chassis that the saddles, inertia block, string-lock hardware and tension plates all bolt to. The knife edges are machined directly into this plate. When those edges round over from years of use, the bridge stops returning to pitch. No amount of spring adjustment or lubrication fixes a worn knife edge. The plate gets replaced.
Fit is not flexible. This plate is cut for the Special series and nothing else. Saddle spacing, block mounting, string-lock thread pitch and tension plate geometry are all matched to their own series — Special parts do not cross over to Original, 1000, 90, or any other Floyd Rose line. Before ordering, confirm your tremolo says Special on the plate or in the original documentation. String count has to match exactly as well; measure yours if you are not certain.
The plate is hardened steel with a satin chrome finish. Hardened steel is what makes the knife edge last as long as it does in the first place — softer alloys round over faster and a chrome plate that has gone dull or chalky is usually telling you the edges are not far behind.
If you are not certain this is the right plate for your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will check it.
