This is the string retainer bar for the Floyd Rose Special tremolo system, supplied with its mounting screws. Its job is to pull the strings down at the correct angle as they leave the locking nut. Without enough break angle, strings lift out of the nut saddles under a hard dive, killing tuning stability before the trem arm has done anything wrong.
Fit is the thing to get right before ordering. The retainer controls the downward break angle across the locking nut — get the height wrong and no amount of shimming will compensate properly. Mounting hole spacing on Floyd Rose retainers is series-specific: this part is made for the Special series. If you are running an Original, a 1000 series, or a licensed copy, the bolt pattern may not match. Measure your existing hole spacing and confirm you are on a Special before ordering.
The bar is steel with a satin chrome finish. Satin chrome sits flat rather than mirror-bright, so it will blend with other satin hardware without standing out. If the original retainer on your guitar has a polished look, this finish will not match it.
If you are not certain which Floyd Rose series is on your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will tell you before you buy.
