The string retainer is the bar that sits behind the locking nut and pulls the strings down onto it at an angle. Without enough break angle, string tension during a deep dive can pop a string out of the nut block before the locks even come loose. This is the Floyd Rose Special version, steel, satin black finish, supplied with its mounting screws.
Fit is not universal across Floyd Rose series. The mounting hole spacing on this retainer is specific to the Special series — it will not line up on an Original, 1000 series, or other variant. Beyond spacing, the retainer height sets the break angle over the nut: swap in the wrong shim or the wrong retainer and the angle changes enough to cause tuning instability or string ejection under hard use. Measure the hole spacing on your existing retainer before ordering, and confirm the guitar is fitted with a Special series system, not just a Floyd Rose-branded one.
Steel construction. The satin black finish matches the rest of the Special series hardware; if your existing retainer has worn through or corroded, surface condition here also affects how cleanly strings seat during restringing.
If you are not certain which Floyd Rose series is on your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will confirm the right part before you order.
