The locking nut is the part that clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking them out of the tuning machine equation once the bridge is set. When this nut strips, cracks, or loses its clamping force, tuning stability goes with it. This is Floyd Rose's own replacement for the Special series tremolo system, finished in nickel, made from spot-hardened steel.

Fitment is determined by two things: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width code — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and this is the R-3. That code means nothing until you measure the nut slot on your actual guitar. Too narrow and the outer strings crowd the fretboard edge; too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the nut face and buzz. Do not order from the guitar model name. Pull the old nut, measure the slot width, and match the number.

The nut body is spot-hardened steel, which is what Floyd Rose uses across its steel-block Special hardware. The nickel finish matches the rest of the Special series hardware if you are replacing a single component rather than the whole bridge assembly.
