This is the R-2 locking nut from Floyd Rose's Special series. It clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking string movement at that end of the system out of the equation once the clamps are locked down. If your outer strings are buzzing at the nut or slipping under string lock pressure, the nut block, clamping hardware or the nut itself is usually the cause. This replaces the original unit on a Floyd Rose Special-equipped guitar.
Fit is decided by two things: neck width at the nut slot and fretboard radius. Get either wrong and the nut will never work correctly — too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the clamping block, too narrow and the strings run out of room toward the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose designates nut width by size code: R2, R3, R4 and so on. This is an R-2. Do not order by guitar model; measure the nut slot width on your actual guitar before you commit to a size.
The nut is spot-hardened steel with a nickel finish. Spot hardening puts the wear resistance where the string contact is without making the whole piece brittle — relevant because a locking nut that chips or cracks at the saddle slots will never clamp evenly across all six strings.
If you are not certain the R-2 is the right size for your neck, send us the make, model and year of the guitar and we will check it against what we know.
