The Floyd Rose Special Gold R-3 Locking Nut (FRS2NR3GP) is a direct replacement locking nut for the Floyd Rose Special tremolo system. Its job is to clamp all six strings at the headstock end so tuning changes made at the bridge stay locked in — the nut is the other half of that system, and a worn, cracked or stripped original undoes everything the bridge does.

Fit is decided by two things: neck width at the nut slot and fretboard radius. Floyd Rose sizes its locking nuts by width designation — R2, R3, R4 and so on. The R-3 designation in this part's name is not decorative; it has to match the slot cut into your neck. A nut that is even slightly too narrow crowds the outer strings toward the fretboard edge. A nut with too flat a radius leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the saddles and buzzing no matter how you adjust. Measure the width of your existing nut before ordering. Do not assume from the guitar model — the same model has shipped with different nut sizes across production runs.

The nut body is spot-hardened steel with a gold finish, matching the hardware on Floyd Rose Special series bridges finished in gold. Spot-hardening at the string contact points resists the wear and deformation that eventually lets strings shift under the clamp blocks.
