This is the locking nut that clamps your strings at the headstock end of a Floyd Rose Special tremolo system. When the clamp blocks seat correctly, string tension is transferred to the bridge and the nut is taken out of the tuning equation entirely. The part is spot-hardened steel in a chrome finish. It is the R-3 width, sized to Floyd Rose's own nut sizing system, and it is a direct replacement for the nut that ships on Special series bridges.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Neither is interchangeable. Order the wrong width and the strings will crowd the edge of the fretboard or bunch in the middle. Order the wrong radius and the outer strings will sit proud of the clamping surface and buzz regardless of how tight you run the clamp screws. Floyd Rose labels its nuts R-2, R-3, R-4 and so on — the R number is a width designation, not a model compatibility code. Before ordering, measure the nut slot width on your guitar and confirm the fretboard radius. Do not go by model name alone.

Spot-hardened steel means the clamping surfaces are hardened at the contact points while the body of the nut retains some flex. The failure mode to check before ordering is stripped clamping-block screw holes: if the threads in the nut body are gone, a new nut is the fix, not new screws.
