This is the Floyd Rose Special R-3 locking nut in satin gold, part number FRS2NR3SGP. It clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing them from the tuning equation once the bridge fine-tuners take over. Without a functioning locking nut, a floating tremolo system cannot hold pitch — the nut is where the string is fixed, not the tuner.

Fit decides everything here. A locking nut has to match both the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the saddle surface and buzz. Too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width — R2, R3, R4 and so on — so the R-3 designation is a specific dimension, not a quality tier. Do not order by guitar model. Measure the nut slot width on your existing nut before you order.

The nut body is spot-hardened steel — the contact points are hardened where string pressure concentrates, which is where softer material wears and loses clamping grip over time. Finish is satin gold.
