The base plate is the structural core of the Floyd Rose Special tremolo — the part every other component bolts to. When the knife edges on your current plate have worn round and the bridge will not return to pitch regardless of how it is set up, the plate is the problem. This is the factory replacement for that plate, made in hardened steel with a chrome finish.
Fit is not flexible here. The knife edges are machined into this plate, and they are matched to the Special series. Saddles, sustain block, string-lock hardware and tension plates for Special series systems are cut to this plate's geometry. A plate from a different series — Original, 1000, 1500, or any other — will not accept the same hardware correctly. Before ordering, confirm your bridge is a Floyd Rose Special. If you are not certain, check the series marking on your existing plate before the knife edges are gone entirely.
The plate is hardened steel. That hardness is what gives the knife edges their working life in the first place — a softer plate wears faster under the lateral pivot load the arm puts through it every time you use it. Chrome finish matches the standard Special series hardware.
