The base plate is the structural core of the Floyd Rose Original tremolo. Every other component — saddles, sustain block, locking hardware, tension plates — mounts to this plate. When a Floyd Rose stops returning to pitch and setup adjustments have been exhausted, worn knife edges are usually the cause. The knife edges are machined directly into this plate. There is no way to recondition them. Replacement is the fix.

Fit is not flexible. This plate is cut for the Floyd Rose Original series. Saddles, blocks, string-lock screws and tension plates from other Floyd Rose series are dimensioned for their own plates and will not interchange with this one. Check the series stamped or printed on your existing plate before ordering. String count must also match — a six-string plate is not a drop-in for a seven-string setup.

This plate is hardened steel with a chrome finish, made in Germany. Hardened steel is what allows the knife edges to hold their geometry under the string load and the constant pivoting of a floating bridge. A softer plate wears faster and loses the precise edge contact the system depends on.
