The base plate is the structural core of the Floyd Rose Special tremolo — the part the saddles, inertia block, mounting hardware and tension plates all bolt to. This is the black hardened steel replacement plate for Special Series units.

Fit is non-negotiable on two counts. First, the knife edges are machined into this plate. They are the contact point between the bridge and the pivot studs, and once they round over from wear or corrosion, no setup adjustment recovers pitch stability — the plate itself has to come out. Second, the Special Series plate is dimensioned for Special Series components only. Saddles, blocks, string-lock hardware and tension plates cut for other Floyd Rose series do not cross over to this plate. Match the series exactly before ordering.

The plate is hardened steel with a black finish. Hardened steel is what allows the knife edges to hold their geometry under constant pivot load — softer material is why aftermarket plates often wear faster than the factory part.
