The Floyd Rose Special R-2 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking them out of the tuning equation once the bridge is set. When the nut is worn, cracked, or the clamping blocks no longer bite, the system cannot hold pitch regardless of what else you adjust. This is the direct replacement for the Special series tremolo.

Fit is decided by two measurements: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose designates nut widths by size code — R2, R3, R4 and so on. The R-2 in this listing is one specific width. If you order on a guess and the code is wrong, the outer strings either crowd the fretboard edge or sit proud and buzz, and no amount of adjustment fixes it. Measure the nut slot on your guitar before ordering. If the original nut is still in place, check the Floyd Rose size code stamped on it.

The nut body is spot-hardened steel with a chrome finish, matching the hardware on Special series bridges. Spot hardening concentrates the hardness at the clamping surfaces where the blocks bear down on the strings, which is where soft material wears first.
