This is the Floyd Rose Special series locking nut in R-3 width, finished in antique bronze. It clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, which is what lets a Floyd Rose system return to pitch after heavy use of the arm — without a locked nut, the strings slip at the headstock and tuning stability falls apart regardless of how well the bridge is set up.

Fit is decided by two things: neck width at the nut slot, and fretboard radius. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts using an R-number — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and this is the R-3. Too narrow and the outer strings crowd the fretboard edge. Too wide and the nut will not drop into the slot. The radius has to match as well: a nut that is too flat will leave the outer strings sitting proud of the saddle, and no amount of setup work will stop them buzzing. Measure your existing nut before ordering. Do not go by guitar model alone.

The nut is made from spot-hardened steel with an antique bronze finish, matching the Special series hardware. Spot hardening puts the wear resistance where the string contact actually happens without making the whole piece brittle.
