The Floyd Rose Special R-2 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking string tension out of the tuning machine equation once the fine tuners at the bridge are set. Without a functioning locking nut, a floating tremolo system cannot hold pitch — the nut is where the string path is fixed. This is a spot-hardened steel unit finished in antique bronze, built for the Floyd Rose Special tremolo series.

Fit is decided by two things: neck width at the nut slot and fretboard radius. Floyd Rose designates nut width by a letter-number code — this is the R-2. If your current nut is cracked, stripped or the wrong size and you are ordering from a guitar model name alone, stop. Measure the slot width and check the radius of your existing nut before ordering. A nut that is too wide for the fretboard crowds the outer strings toward the edge. A nut whose radius is too flat leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the clamping block, and no amount of adjustment fixes that buzz.

The spot-hardening on the steel is load-bearing, not cosmetic — the clamping screws bear directly against the block, and soft steel in that joint rounds out fast under repeated use. The antique bronze finish is specific to this variant; the same R-2 geometry is available in other finishes if the colour does not match your hardware.
