The sustain block is the brass mass that hangs below the base plate and anchors the tremolo springs. When a block cracks, strips its string saddle threads, or gets swapped out as part of a material change, this is the part that needs replacing. This is the Floyd Rose Special series block, nickel-plated brass, 42mm, part number FRS2TB42P.

Before ordering, measure your body cavity clearance and check your base plate's mounting screw pattern. Block length has to clear the cavity through the full range of arm travel — too long and the block bottoms out mid-dive; too short and the springs sit at the wrong angle and the geometry is off. The screw pattern on this block also has to match the base plate it bolts to. A Floyd Rose Special block does not automatically bolt to every Floyd Rose base plate.

The block is nickel-plated brass. Brass is denser than the zinc alloy used in some stock blocks, which changes the character of the attack and sustain — but material choice has no effect on whether the block physically clears your cavity or matches your plate. Sort the fit first.
