The Floyd Rose Original R-8 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing them from the tuner circuit once the bridge is set. Without a functioning locking nut, the floating bridge has no fixed anchor point at the headstock and the system cannot hold pitch through use. Fit is determined by two measurements: the width of the nut slot in your neck, and the radius of your fretboard. These have to match — not approximately, exactly. A nut that is too flat for your radius will leave the outer strings sitting proud of the saddle face and buzzing. A nut that is too narrow will push the outer strings toward the edge of the fretboard under clamping pressure. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width designation — R2, R3, R4, R8 and so on — and these are not interchangeable. Measure your existing nut before ordering. Do not assume the size from the guitar model alone; the same model was sometimes built with different nut widths across production runs.

The clamping blocks and saddle are hardened steel throughout. The gold finish on this unit matches Original Series hardware finished in gold. Compatible with Floyd Rose Original, Pro, Non-Fine Tuner, and Hot Rod Series tremolos.
