The Floyd Rose Original R-4 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing that anchor point from the tuning equation entirely. Once the cam locks are tightened, tuning stability depends on the bridge, not the nut. This is the Original Series part, hardened steel, gold finish, part number FRNR4GP.

Fit is the one thing to get right before ordering. A locking nut has to match both the width of your neck at the nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the saddle face and buzz. Too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose sizes these nuts by width — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and the size is not something you can reliably guess from the guitar model alone. Pull the old nut, measure the slot width and the string-contact radius, and match those numbers. If the old nut is missing, measure the neck at the nut slot directly.

The nut is hardened steel throughout. That matters because the cam bolts bear directly on the string at high clamping force, and soft metal deforms at that contact point, which throws intonation and eventually strips the thread on the bolt. This part is finished in gold to match Original Series gold hardware.
