The Floyd Rose Original R-3 Locking Nut is the clamping block that locks the strings at the headstock end of a Floyd Rose system. When the bridge floats, string tension has to be anchored at both ends — the bridge saddle locks do one half, this nut does the other. Without a solid lock here, the system cannot return to pitch reliably after heavy use of the arm.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of the nut slot routed into your neck, and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose designates nut widths by an R-number — R2, R3, R4, and so on — and this is the R-3 size. Close is not close enough: a nut that is too flat in radius will leave the outer strings sitting proud of the saddles, and a nut that is even slightly too narrow for the slot will crowd the strings toward the fretboard edges. Measure the nut slot on your existing nut before ordering. Do not guess from the guitar model — the same model can ship with different nut sizes across production runs.
