The Floyd Rose Original R-8 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking pitch stability out of the tuning pegs entirely. Once the nut is clamped, the string length is fixed between two anchor points — the nut block and the bridge saddle — and the fine tuners on the bridge do the rest. Without a working locking nut, a floating tremolo system cannot hold pitch after a dive or pull-up. This is a genuine Floyd Rose part made in Germany, hardened steel with a chrome finish, sized R-8.

Fit is not something to guess at. A locking nut has to match the neck width at the nut slot and the fretboard radius simultaneously. If the radius is too flat relative to your board, the outer strings will sit proud of the blocks and buzz or clamp unevenly. If the nut is too narrow for the slot, the outer strings will crowd the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose designates nut width by its R-number — R2, R3, R4, R8 and so on — and those numbers are not interchangeable. Before ordering, remove the existing nut and measure the slot width directly. Do not order from the guitar model name alone; production specs have changed across runs and markets.

This nut is part of the Floyd Rose Original series and is compatible with Original, Pro, Non-Fine Tuner, and Hot Rod series Floyd Rose tremolo systems. The body is hardened steel, which matters because the clamping blocks bite against the strings under load. A soft nut rounds out over time and loses clamping force; hardened steel does not.
