The Floyd Rose Original R-5 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing that end of the string from the tuning equation once the locks are tightened. Without a functioning locking nut, the floating bridge system cannot hold pitch under heavy use. This is a genuine Floyd Rose part, hardened steel, chrome finish, made in Germany, and sized R-5.
Fit is decided by two things: the width of the nut slot on your neck, and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its locking nuts in the R-series — R2, R3, R4, R5, and so on — and a size that is even slightly off will cause problems that cannot be adjusted away. Too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the saddles; too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Before you order, measure the nut slot width on your existing nut. Do not guess from the model name — the same guitar has shipped with different nut sizes across production runs.
This nut is compatible with Floyd Rose Original, Pro, Non-Fine Tuner, and Hot Rod Series tremolo systems. The material is hardened steel throughout, which matters at the string lock point: soft metal deforms under the clamping screws and loses the flat seating surface the system depends on.
If you are not certain the R-5 is the right size for your guitar, send us the make, model, and year and we will check it against what we have on the bench.
