The Floyd Rose Original R-7 locking nut (FRNR7CP) clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing string tension from the tuning pegs so the tremolo can return to pitch after use. Without a functioning locking nut, a floating tremolo is not a floating tremolo. This is a genuine Floyd Rose Original Series part, made from hardened steel with a chrome finish.
Fit is decided by two things: neck width at the nut slot and fretboard radius. Neither can be guessed from the model name alone. A nut that is too flat for the radius will leave the outer strings sitting proud of the saddle surface and buzzing. One that is too narrow pushes the outer strings toward the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose designates nut width by size code — R2, R3, R4, R7, and so on. The R-7 designation here refers to a specific width. Measure your existing nut before ordering. Do not assume the size from the guitar model or the tremolo model.
The nut body is hardened steel. This matters because the clamping screws bear directly against the strings under significant torque, and softer materials wear at the clamp seats over time. If your current nut is stripping at the string channels or cracking at the clamping blocks, hardened steel is the correct replacement material.
If you are not certain this is the right size for your neck, send us the make, model and year of your guitar and we will help you confirm the fit before you order.
