A locking nut clamps the strings against the headstock end of the neck, removing them from the tuning-machine circuit entirely so the floating bridge can move without pulling the strings out of tune. This is the Floyd Rose Original series R-3 in chrome, made in hardened steel in Germany. It is a direct replacement for the locking nut on Original, Pro, Non-Fine Tuner, and Hot Rod series Floyd Rose systems.
Fit is decided by two things: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and the wrong size will not sit flush in the slot. Get the radius wrong and the outer strings will either sit proud of the saddle surface or crowd the edge of the board. Neither problem goes away with setup. Measure the nut that is coming out before you order: width across the slot and the curve of the fretboard. Do not assume the R-3 is correct because it is the most common size.
The clamping blocks are hardened steel. The chrome finish matches original-spec hardware on most factory Floyd Rose installations from that production run. If the blocks are stripped or the saddle surface is worn, replace the whole nut rather than trying to true a worn one — the clamp has to seat cleanly or fine tuning is wasted effort.
If you are not certain this is the right size for your guitar, send us the make, model and year and we will confirm before you order.
