The Floyd Rose Original R-2 locking nut (FRNR2CP) clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing them from the tuning-machine side of the equation once the bridge is set. Without a functioning locking nut, a floating bridge cannot hold pitch under dive or pull-up — the nut is half the system, not an accessory. This is the Chrome finish version in Floyd Rose's Original series, made from hardened steel.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of your existing nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its locking nuts by width — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and the wrong size creates problems that no setup can fix. Too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the saddle surface and buzz. Too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Measure the nut slot on your guitar before ordering. Do not assume the size from the guitar model — the same model has shipped with different nut widths across different production runs.

The nut body is hardened steel, which resists the deformation that softer alloys develop over time under repeated clamping torque. The clamping blocks bear directly against the strings; a stripped or mushroomed block screw is the most common failure on used units, not the nut body itself.
