The Floyd Rose Original R-7 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, cutting the headstock hardware out of the tuning equation. Once the blocks are tightened, the strings are fixed at both ends — the nut and the bridge saddle — so the tremolo can move without the strings drifting sharp or flat. Without a correctly fitted locking nut, the rest of the Floyd Rose system cannot do its job.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of the nut slot and the radius of the fretboard. A nut that is the wrong width crowds the outer strings toward the edge or leaves them bunched in the centre. A nut whose radius is too flat leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the surface and buzzing against the first fret. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts in the R-series — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and the R-7 designation is a specific width within that system. Do not order by guitar model. Measure the nut slot on your actual guitar and confirm the fretboard radius before ordering.

This nut is hardened steel with a black finish, from the Floyd Rose Original series. The harder the material, the less the nut compresses under string tension — relevant because any movement inside the clamp surfaces causes tuning drift even when the blocks are tightened. It is compatible with Floyd Rose Original, Pro, Non-Fine Tuner and Hot Rod series tremolo systems.
