The Floyd Rose Original R-3 locking nut clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, removing that anchor point from the tuning equation entirely. Once the clamp blocks are torqued down, string tension no longer passes through the machine heads. This is what allows a Floyd Rose to return to pitch after extreme use — but only if the nut is doing its job. A worn, corroded or incorrectly sized nut defeats the whole system.

Fit is decided by two measurements, not by guitar model. The nut has to match the width of your neck at the nut slot, and it has to match the fretboard radius. Get either one wrong and you will chase a problem that cannot be adjusted away: too flat a radius leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the clamping surface; too narrow a width crowds the strings toward the fretboard edge. Floyd Rose designates nut width with its R-number system — R2, R3, R4 and so on. This is the R-3 size. Measure your existing nut before ordering. Do not order from the guitar model name alone.

This nut is hardened steel with a black finish. It is part of the Floyd Rose Original series and carries part number FRNR3BP. Hardened steel resists the clamping load and the string wear at the break point; softer materials deform over time and allow the strings to move under the blocks.
