This is the Floyd Rose Original 42mm Fat Brass sustain block (FROFTB42). It replaces the block that hangs beneath the base plate and anchors the tremolo springs. Swapping the factory block for brass changes the attack character — brass is known to add warmth and midrange clarity without sacrificing definition. The "Fat" designation means this block is wider and thicker than a standard replacement block, which increases mass and affects how the bridge resonates.

Fit is decided by two things, and you need to verify both before ordering. First, measure your spring cavity depth: because this is a larger-than-standard block, it may require routing to clear the cavity in a floating setup, and it can contact the body and limit upward travel if your cavity is shallow. Too long and the block bottoms out mid-dive; too short and the springs sit at the wrong angle. Second, the mounting screw pattern has to match your base plate. This block is designed for the Floyd Rose Original series. It is also compatible with the 7-String Original, 1000 Series, and Special tremolo systems — but not with 1000 Series Original 7-String or Special 7-String systems, which use a different mounting hole spacing and must retain their factory blocks. It does work on the 1000 Series Pro 7-String.

The block is solid brass, uncoated. Brass is denser than the pot metal or zinc alloy used in many stock blocks. That added mass is what changes the feel under the palm and the way the note blooms — it is a mechanical change, not a coating or a treatment.
