This is a 0.01 steel shim that sits under a Floyd Rose Original locking nut to raise it fractionally in the slot. When a nut sits too low, the strings foul the first fret or buzz open — adding the correct number of shims lifts the nut to the height where the clamped strings clear cleanly without pulling the action high enough to affect playability. One shim alone may not be the answer; technicians stack them to dial in the exact height the neck requires.
Before ordering, confirm this shim is for a Floyd Rose Original series locking nut, not the Special, Pro, or 1000 series — the nut geometry and slot depth differ between series. Beyond that, the locking nut itself has to be the right width and radius for your neck. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width code (R2, R3, R4 and so on). Too flat a radius and the outer strings sit proud of the saddles; too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. Neither is fixed by shimming. Measure your existing nut before ordering any hardware for this slot.
Material is steel throughout. Shims are consumable hardware — they corrode, compress, or get lost during a nut swap. Keeping a small stock on the bench is standard practice if you adjust nut height regularly.
If you are not certain this is the right shim for your setup, send us the make, model and year of your guitar and we will point you to the correct part.
