The Floyd Rose Special is Floyd Rose's own double-locking tremolo kit — bridge, saddles, sustain block, locking nut, springs and claw, mounting studs, and all installation hardware in one box. The Special series follows the Original Floyd Rose design but uses a zinc alloy sustain block and zinc alloy saddles rather than brass and steel. The base plate is spot-hardened steel; the arm and springs are steel. Finish is nickel. Part number FRTS4000.
String count and mounting style are the two things that decide whether this fits. This is a 6-string unit — it will not work on a 7- or 8-string guitar. Beyond string count, a recessed Floyd-style installation requires a rear cavity route through the body; a top-mount installation does not. Your existing route depth, stud spacing, and neck angle all have to line up. If you are replacing a non-locking bridge with a double-locking system for the first time, plan for a routing job, not a drop-in swap. Measure your stud spacing and cavity before ordering.
The zinc alloy block and saddles are a known trade-off relative to brass-block variants. Zinc is lighter and casts well, which keeps the kit price down. If you are replacing a worn-out Special on a guitar that already has this spec, this is a like-for-like swap. If you are moving from a brass-block system, the feel and resonance will differ.
