The FR1NR3C is a hardened steel locking nut in chrome finish, part of the Floyd Rose 1000 Series. It sits in the nut slot at the headstock end of the neck and clamps all six strings with its clamping blocks, removing them from the tuning machine circuit once the bridge fine-tuners take over. Without a functioning locking nut, the floating bridge has no fixed anchor point and the system does not hold pitch under use.
Fit is decided by two things: nut slot width and fretboard radius. Floyd Rose designates nut width by size code — this part is the R3. That tells you nothing useful unless you have already measured your existing nut or slot, because the same guitar model has shipped with different nut sizes across production runs and after replacements. A nut that is even slightly too flat in radius will leave the outer strings sitting proud of the saddle surface and buzzing regardless of how hard you clamp. Measure the width of your current nut and check the radius before ordering. Do not work from the model name alone.
The nut body is hardened steel. Softer metals deform at the clamping blocks over time — the screw seats wallow out, clamping force drops unevenly, and tuning stability goes with it. Hardened steel holds its geometry across repeated clamp-and-release cycles.
If you are not certain the R3 is the correct size for your neck, send us the make, model and year of your guitar and we will confirm the fit before you order.
