This is the locking nut for Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo systems, finished in black nickel over hardened steel. Its job is to clamp all six strings at the headstock end so that tuning changes made at the fine tuners stay isolated from the machine heads — no clamp, no pitch stability.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts in an R-series scale — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and this one is an R3. Too flat a radius and the outer strings will sit proud of the saddle surface and buzz. Too narrow and the strings crowd the fretboard edge. The guitar model alone will not tell you which R-size you need, because the same model has shipped with different nut widths across production runs. Measure the nut slot width on your guitar before ordering.

The nut body is hardened steel with a black nickel finish. Hardened steel resists wear at the string contact points, which is where softer materials tend to deform first under the clamping blocks. The black nickel finish matches the 1000 Series hardware spec rather than chrome.
