This is the locking nut for Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo systems, finished in black nickel over hardened steel. It clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck, taking them out of the equation once the fine tuners are set. Without a functioning locking nut, the bridge does the work of trying to return to pitch after a dive, and it cannot do that reliably on its own.

Fit is decided by two things: the width of your nut slot and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose sizes its nuts by width — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and this is the R2. Too narrow and the outer strings crowd the edge of the fretboard. Too wide and it will not seat in the slot. A radius that does not match your board means the outer strings sit proud of the clamping block and buzz no matter how you adjust. Measure the nut slot on your guitar before ordering. Do not guess from the model name; the same model has shipped with different nut widths across production runs.

The nut is hardened steel with a black nickel finish, matched to the 1000 Series hardware. Hardened steel resists the clamping load that soft alloy nuts develop over time — the kind of deformation that lets the string shift under the block even when the screw feels tight.
