Description

Ibanez built the SRMS800DTW as part of the SR Workshop Series, positioning it toward players seeking an extended-range instrument with a multi-scale fretboard. The multi-scale design — with scale lengths running from 851 mm to 876 mm — was intended to balance string tension across the range of a four-string bass while the Workshop Series designation placed it above the standard SR production line in terms of specification and material selection.

The neck is a five-piece Jatoba and Walnut construction, profiled for the SRMS4 multi-scale geometry and carrying a bound Panga Panga fretboard with acrylic special inlays and 24 medium frets. Nut width measures 38 mm, widening to 62 mm at the 24th fret; neck thickness runs 19.5 mm at the first fret and 23 mm at the twelfth, with a 305 mm radius. The body pairs an Okoume core with a Poplar Burl top in Deep Twilight. Electronics consist of two passive Bartolini BH2 pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — fed into an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge offers 19 mm string spacing, and all hardware is finished in black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL170SL strings gauged .045/.065/.080/.100 in standard E-A-D-G tuning.

Owners requiring replacement parts — particularly the MR5S bridge components, Bartolini BH2 pickups, or Panga Panga fretboard work — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician familiar with multi-scale instruments, as the fanned-fret geometry affects nut slotting, fret levelling, and saddle alignment relative to a conventional parallel-fret instrument.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
