Ibanez built the AFR4PBPDTF as part of the AFR Series electric bass line, positioning it as a four-string instrument with a half-through-neck construction and a multi-piece build intended to balance resonance and stability across the scale length.
The bass was constructed around a three-piece Maple neck with Graphite reinforcement rods running through a half-through-neck joint into a Maple body, topped with a Poplar Burl and Walnut laminate. The Ebony fretboard carries 24 medium frets with premium edge treatment and an Abalone off-set dot inlay at the 12th fret, with a 305mm radius, a 40mm nut width, and a 34-inch scale length. String spacing at the AeroSilk MR5 bridge is 19mm. Pickup configuration centres on a Bartolini X44JX passive pickup at the middle position, with tone shaping handled by an Ibanez 2-band EQ supplemented by a Piezo active tone control — a passive/active hybrid arrangement. All hardware is finished in black. The instrument shipped with D'Addario EXL165 strings in a .045/.065/.085/.105 gauge, tuned to standard E–A–D–G.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — particularly bridge saddles compatible with the AeroSilk MR5, or pickups matching the Bartolini X44JX footprint — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician who can verify fit against the existing routing and string spacing before installation.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
