Description

Ibanez built the SRMS806BTT as part of the SR Workshop Series, a line positioned above the standard SR range and aimed at players seeking extended-range instruments with more involved tonewoods and electronics. The SRMS806 is a six-string multi-scale bass, with the fanned-fret layout reflected in its dual scale lengths spanning 33.6" to 35.5" across the string spread.

The neck is a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut construction, profiled to the SRMS6 multi-scale specification, and carries a bound Panga Panga fretboard with acrylic special inlays and 24 medium frets. The body pairs a Poplar Burl top with an Okoume core. Electronics are fully passive at the pickup stage — dual Bartolini BH2 humbuckers at neck and bridge positions — feeding into Ibanez's own Custom Electronics 3-band EQ, which includes an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge is set at 16.5mm string spacing. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The nut width measures 54mm, widening to 83mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness running 19.5mm at the first fret and 23mm at the twelfth. Fretboard radius is 400mmR. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL170-5SL plus a .032 string, in B–E–A–D–G–C tuning, at gauges .032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130.

Owners sourcing replacement components — including the Bartolini BH2 pickups, MR5S bridge saddles, or fanned-fret compatible hardware — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician familiar with multi-scale instruments, as the fanned-fret geometry affects nut slotting, fret work, and bridge alignment relative to conventional basses.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
