- Surreal Black Dual Fade
Ibanez built the SR505ESBD as a five-string entry in the SR (Soundgear) Series, positioning it toward players seeking an active-EQ instrument with passive pickup options at a mid-tier level of the line. The Surreal Black Dual Fade finish distinguished it visually within the SR505E family.
The bass was constructed with an Okoume body and a five-piece Jatoba/Walnut neck — a laminated construction Ibanez used in the SR line for rigidity and stability. The Jatoba fretboard carries abalone oval inlays across 24 medium frets at a 305mm radius. At the nut the width measures 45mm, tapering to 68mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness running 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. Scale length is 864mm (34 inches). String spacing at the Accu-cast B505 bridge is 16.5mm. Electronics consist of a pair of passive Bartolini BH2 pickups — one at the neck position, one at the bridge — routed through an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ featuring an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings plus a .130 low-B, gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.130, in standard five-string tuning B–E–A–D–G.
Owners consulting this record for setup or parts compatibility — particularly for bridge saddle replacements, nut sizing, or pickup substitutions — should bring the dimensions noted above to a qualified guitar technician or luthier.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
