- Cerulean Blue Burst Low Gloss
Ibanez built the BTB846CBL as part of the BTB Series, positioning it as a six-string electric bass with a neck-through construction and an extended 35-inch scale length. The model carried a Cerulean Blue Burst Low Gloss finish and sat toward the upper end of the BTB line, reflecting the series' emphasis on extended-range playability and multi-piece neck architecture.
The bass was built around a five-piece Maple and Walnut neck-through design, with Ash and Okoume wings forming the body and a Poplar Burl decorative top. The Jatoba fretboard carried 24 medium stainless steel frets alongside a zero fret, with abalone dot inlays and a 950mm radius. Nut width measured 54mm, widening to 85mm at the 24th fret, with a 17mm string spacing at the bridge — figures that reflect the demands of six-string bass technique. The MR5 bridge and Cosmo black hardware complemented the passive Bartolini BH2 pickups at neck and bridge positions, with an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ handling active tone shaping. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario NYXL32130 strings (.032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130) in standard six-string bass tuning B through C.
Owners requiring setup work, fret maintenance, or parts sourcing for the MR5 bridge, Bartolini BH2 pickups, or associated hardware should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician familiar with extended-range instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
