Ibanez built the BTB747NTL as part of the BTB Series, a line positioned around extended-range, neck-through construction aimed at players requiring a longer scale and wider string spacing than a standard bass. The seven-string configuration and 35-inch scale placed it toward the upper end of the BTB range in terms of tonal reach and physical demand.
The neck is a nine-piece laminate of Maple, Panga Panga, and Walnut running through the body as a neck-through construction, reinforced with graphite rods. The body wings are Ash and Okoume with a Walnut top, finished in Natural Low Gloss. The Jatoba fretboard carries abalone dot inlays and 24 medium stainless steel frets alongside a zero fret, with a 950mm radius and a nut width of 63mm widening to 96mm at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measures 21mm at the first fret and 24mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the MR5 bridge is 15.5mm. Electronics consist of a pair of passive Bartolini BH2 pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — routed through an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ. Hardware is finished in Cosmo black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario strings gauged .020p/.032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130 in B–E–A–D–G–C–F tuning (low to high).
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including the Bartolini BH2 pickups, MR5 bridge components, or stainless steel frets in the correct medium profile — should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with extended-range instruments, particularly given the neck-through construction and zero-fret configuration.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
