Ibanez built the BTB746NTL as part of its BTB Series, positioning it as a six-string electric bass designed around an extended 35-inch scale and a neck-through construction. The model carried a Natural Low Gloss finish and sat within a line Ibanez developed to address players requiring wider tonal range and additional low-end clarity from a production instrument.
The bass featured a five-piece Maple/Walnut neck-through construction reinforced with graphite rods, paired with a Walnut top over an Ash/Okoume wing body. The Jatoba fretboard carried abalone dot inlays and presented 24 medium stainless steel frets alongside a zero fret, with a 950mm radius and a nut width of 54mm widening to 85mm at the 24th fret. Neck thickness measured 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the 12th. Electronics consisted of passive Bartolini BH2 pickups at both neck and bridge positions, fed into an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ. The MR5 bridge offered 17mm string spacing, and all hardware was finished in cosmo black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario NYXL32130 strings (.032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130) and tuned B–E–A–D–G–C.
