Description

Ibanez built the BTB1906SMSKB as part of the BTB Premium Series, positioning it as a six-string electric bass within the upper tier of their BTB line. The neck-through construction and multi-piece neck architecture placed this instrument toward the more specification-intensive end of the Premium range.

The BTB1906SMSKB features a seven-piece Panga Panga and Purpleheart neck with graphite reinforcement rods running through a neck-through body configuration, with African Mahogany wing body panels and a Spalted Maple top and back. The bound Panga Panga fretboard carries abalone off-set dot inlays and 24 medium stainless steel frets with a zero fret, finished with a premium fret edge treatment. The 889mm scale and 950mmR radius board measure 54mm at the nut and 85mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness of 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the 12th. Two passive Aguilar DCB pickups feed into Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch, a passive tone control on the treble pot, and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. The MR5S bridge runs 17mm string spacing, and all hardware is finished in gold. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario NYXL32130SL strings in .032/.045/.065/.080/.100/.130 gauges, tuned 1C/2G/3D/4A/5E/6B.

Owners seeking replacement parts — including compatible Aguilar DCB pickup covers, MR5S bridge components, or stainless steel fretwire matched to the original medium profile — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician for fit confirmation before ordering.

The owner archive

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
