Ibanez built the AFR5WAPNTF as part of the AFR Series, a five-string electric bass positioned around a half-through-neck construction and active electronics. The model carried a Natural Flat finish and was designed to offer extended low-end range via its five-string configuration with a low-B tuning.
The neck is a three-piece Maple half-through design with graphite reinforcement rods, joined to a Walnut body. The Ebony fretboard runs 24 medium frets with premium edge treatment and carries an abalone off-set dot inlay at the 12th fret. The 34-inch scale and 48mm nut width establish the playing geometry, with string spacing of 19mm at the AeroSilk MR5 bridge. A Bartolini X55JX pickup occupies the middle position, feeding into an Ibanez 2-band EQ with piezo active tone control. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL165 plus a .130 low-B, gauged .045/.065/.085/.105/.130.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including bridge saddles compatible with the AeroSilk MR5, Bartolini pickup replacements, or Ebony fretboard care products — should consult a qualified luthier or bass technician who can verify fit against the instrument's specific dimensions.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
