Ibanez built the AFR4WAPNTF as part of its AFR Series electric bass line, positioning it as a four-string instrument centred on a half-through-neck construction and boutique-oriented electronics. The walnut body and ebony fretboard placed it toward the premium end of the AFR range.
The three-piece maple neck runs half-through the walnut body and is reinforced with graphite rods for long-term stability. The ebony fretboard carries 24 medium frets with premium edge treatment and an abalone off-set dot inlay at the 12th fret. Nut width is 40mm, widening to 60mm at the 24th fret, with neck thicknesses of 20mm at the first fret and 22mm at the 12th; the fretboard radius is 305mm. Scale length is 864mm (34 inches). The AeroSilk MR5 bridge is set at 19mm string spacing. Electronics centre on a Bartolini X44JX middle pickup paired with an Ibanez 2-band EQ that incorporates a piezo active tone control. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL165 strings gauged .045/.065/.085/.105, tuned E–A–D–G.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — bridge saddles, nut blanks, or compatible pickup and preamp components — should consult the specifications above for dimensional references, and bring the instrument to a qualified guitar technician or luthier for setup and installation work.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
