Ibanez produced the GWB1005NTF as part of its GWB Signature Series, a line developed around the playing requirements of a fretless bass specialist. The five-string, fretless configuration placed it toward the upper tier of the GWB range, aimed at players who required extended low-end range without the definition of frets.
The bass was built on a Swamp Ash body paired with a three-piece Maple neck and an Ebony fingerboard carrying off-set white dot inlays — a wood combination that balances clarity in the upper register with warmth in the low end. Pickup duties fell to a passive Bartolini GWB bridge pickup, feeding a Bartolini NTBT two-band EQ with a push/pull EQ bypass switch, giving the player the option to run the signal entirely passive. The neck profile measures 45mm at the nut and 67mm at the 24th fret position, with a 305mm radius and a 34-inch scale. String spacing at the bridge sits at 16.5mm. Hardware throughout is finished in black. The instrument left the factory strung B–E–A–D–G with gauges .045/.065/.085/.105/.135.
