- Dark Violin Sunburst High Gloss
Ibanez produced the M522SDVS as part of its mandolin range, positioning it as an F-style instrument built around a solid Sitka spruce top paired with flamed maple back and sides. The Dark Violin Sunburst high gloss finish identified it visually within the lineup.
The neck is maple, profiled to 22.5mm at the first fret and 24.5mm at the seventh, with a 30mm nut width and a flat-radius purpleheart fretboard running 24 frets. The scale measures 350mm. Purpleheart is also used for the bridge and saddle. Acrylic block inlays mark the positions, and gold mandolin tuners with acrylic buttons handle string retention at the headstock. The nut is plastic. Factory stringing runs .010/.014/.024/.034 at standard mandolin tuning G–D–A–E, with a 10mm string spacing at the bridge. Body dimensions place the lower bout at 10¼ inches wide and the maximum body depth at 1¾ inches, with the total body length at 13¾ inches.
Owners sourcing a replacement purpleheart saddle or bridge, or seeking setup adjustments to neck relief and action, should consult a qualified luthier familiar with carved-top mandolin construction.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
