Ibanez built the M522SBS as an F-style mandolin finished in Brown Sunburst High Gloss, positioning it as a solid-top entry in their mandolin catalogue. The instrument featured a solid Sitka spruce top paired with flamed maple back and sides, a combination Ibanez selected to balance projection with tonal clarity.
The maple neck carries a purpleheart fretboard with acrylic block inlays across 24 frets, and a flat radius across the board.
