Description

Washburn built the WCG55CE-O-U as part of its Comfort Series, positioning it as a player-focused grand auditorium acoustic-electric with a Venetian cutaway. A defining feature of the Comfort Series is the re-curve style ergonomic armrest bevel at the lower bout, which integrates into the mahogany top binding rather than functioning as a separate component. The Venetian cutaway provides access to the upper frets of the 20-fret Ovangkol fingerboard.

The body is constructed from koa on the top, back, and sides, with a maple/mahogany/maple strip dividing the book-matched koa back. Body and headstock binding is mahogany and maple. The satin mahogany neck carries a two-way truss rod and a 1-3/4" bone nut at a 25-5/16" scale. The fingerboard is free of inlays. The bridge is mahogany-bound Ovangkol, and all hardware is finished in black, including the 18:1 ratio tuners with black buttons. Bracing follows a Cathedral Peaked Scalloped-X pattern. The three-ring Washburn Parquet rosette is composed of alternating maple and mahogany. The headstock carries a mother-of-pearl Washburn logo. Electronics are handled by the Fishman Presys+ 501T, an integrated preamp and tuner system with controls for volume, built-in tuner, bass, middle, treble, notch, mic blend, and phase. Strings are fitted from the factory as a D'Addario EXP-16 light phosphor bronze set. The instrument ships with a gloss finish and is strung as a six-string. A deluxe case (GCGADLX-U) is available separately and is not included.

Owners seeking setup guidance, nut or saddle work, or help sourcing compatible bridge pins, tuner buttons, or Fishman Presys+ replacement components should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier familiar with acoustic-electric instruments.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
