Schecter built the Keith Merrow KM-7 Mk-III Hybrid as a signature seven-string instrument developed in collaboration with guitarist Keith Merrow, positioned within Schecter's artist series as a high-specification extended-range guitar. It was manufactured in South Korea and constructed via a neck-through body joint with ultra access, pairing a mahogany body with a three-piece maple neck reinforced by carbon fiber rods.
The neck carried an Ultra Thin 'C' profile measuring .748" at the first fret and .787" at the twelfth, topped with an ebony fretboard running a 12"-16" compound radius and fitted with 24 X-jumbo stainless steel frets. The nut was an Ernie Ball Compensated unit at 1.889" (48mm) width, and the truss rod offered two-way adjustment via a heel-access spoke wheel. Luminlay glow-in-the-dark side dot markers and aluminum offset/reverse circle inlays defined the fretboard visually. Electronics consisted of two Fishman Fluence Keith Merrow Humbucker pickups routed through a volume control and three-way switch, powered by a 9-volt clip-in battery compartment. Hardware was finished in black throughout, with the bridge a Hipshot Hardtail with string-through-body stringing, Schecter locking tuners, and metal knurled knobs secured by set screws. The body featured a radius top contour and black single-ply binding. The instrument shipped strung with Ernie Ball seven-string gauges (.009/.011/.016/.026/.036/.046/.062) at a 26.5" (673mm) scale.
